Edible Garden Workshop Series
In partnership with Pierce County Public Works and Utilities, we have created a ‘Vegetable Gardening 101’ workshop series. A different class every month from March - October, this series will take you through the basics of getting started with growing some of your own food. Offered in various locations throughout Pierce County. Visit their website for the latest schedule.
Fruit Tree Education Series
Learn the basics of fruit tree care and maintenance in this 7 part series that runs from February-June. All classes are taught by knowledgeable instructors and local specialists. Participants can enroll in the full series for a comprehensive introduction to fruit tree care or choose to register for individual classes. The first class in the fruit tree series is also the first class in the edible gardens series. WSU Master Gardeners are invited to take the full series to become Fruit Tree Specialists.
Topics Include: winter & summer pruning, pest & disease control, pollinators, espalier and grafting.

WSU Extension Master Gardener Programs
Community Garden Specialist - WSU Master Gardeners go through an intense training in general horticultural knowledge and then volunteer as educators in the community. Now in Pierce County, there is an option within the Master Gardener program to be certified as a Community Garden Specialist.
The goal of the program is to equip community members with the skills and resources necessary to be able to support successful vegetable gardening in the community gardens. In addition to general horticultural knowledge, volunteers will be trained in knowledge specific to Community Garden - such as soils in urban areas, all aspects of vegetable growing, community outreach and leadership. If you have considered Master Gardener training but thought it would not be relevant to your gardening interests - this is for you! The following applications are due in the fall for a training period in January - March:
