About

Since 1949, the Pierce Conservation District, a special purpose district created to conserve natural resources in Pierce County, has fostered healthier ecosystems, cleaner water, sustainable agriculture, and stronger communities. With a strategic focus and collaborative non-regulatory approach, the District is well-positioned to continue to lead environmental stewardship into 2040 — provided it has ongoing sustainable funding. 

Under state RCW 89.08.405 county legislative authorities are authorized to create and administer a system of rates and charges to provide funds for conservation district services. The rate is charged per property parcel. In 2016 the Pierce County Council passed Ordinance 2016-46 creating a ten-year term system of rates from 2017 through 2026. The District is now in the process of creating a new Rates and Charges proposal and we need your help to do so.

We are creating our Strategic Plan alongside our Rates and Charges Proposal. Input gathered during this process will be used as guidance for both processes. To learn more about our strategic plan, visit our Strategic Plans page.

We invite you to participate in the process of creating our 2026 Rates and Charges Plan. By supporting our work, you support local farms, green open spaces, community gardens, and more throughout the county. Rates and Charges for Pierce Conservation District benefits everyone whether you are directly involved with our projects or not and as such we welcome your input.

Community Input Survey

Survey available February 1 - February 28, 2026.

Community Workshop

Pierce Conservation District will host a community workshop to explore the ideal size, scope, and focus of District Programs. Date and time to be determined.

Public Hearing

Pierce Conservation District will host an official Public Meeting where we invite public testimony and comment on the 2026 Rates and Charges Proposal Final Draft in Mid-June 2026. Date and time to be determined.
